We can't wait to record with you.
We'll be using Riverside.fm for HD audio/video. It works on smartphones or computers.
Pre-recording considerations include:
Audio Quality-
-
Quiet Environment:
- Choose a quiet space with minimal background noise.
-
Microphone Setup:
Most computers have web-cams and mics. But quality is a crap-shoot.
If you make Youtube videos, or regularly participate in remote-video meetings, you're probably fine. If not:- Use a USB microphone for better audio quality.
- Position the microphone about a fist's distance away and slightly to the side to minimize pop sounds.
- Logitech (C920 / 922) and other high quality webcams are generally under $100.
-
Headphones:
- Offer a quality mic and eliminate echo from your computer speakers.
-
Internet Connection:
- Ensure a stable internet connection for seamless recording.
- Use a wired internet connection if possible to reduce the chance of dropouts.
Video Quality: Camera Placement/Lighting-
-
- Dim light is preferable to bright/cold/fluorescent.
- Eye level is eye-deal.
- The Mona Lisa is sitting slightly too far away from the camera.
- Dollar bill-George Washington is sitting slightly too close to the camera.
Setup / Recording:
-
Riverside.fm Test:
- Riverside.fm offers a free account. Not only is this a tool worth having for your own purposes, but it allows you to familiarize yourself with Riverside.fm before our recording.
-
Close Unnecessary Apps:
- Close unnecessary applications on your computer to optimize performance during the recording.
Again, you'll probably be fine, particularly if you've been video-conferencing for the last few years.
